One of my favorite charities that I have been “stalking” is Holiday Express. It is in its 23rd year of bringing the gift of human kindness to those who need it during the holiday season.

They go to soup kitchens, hospices, developmental centers and places that you and I may not even know exist. They go to these places with an army of some of the best New Jersey musicians, backed by many volunteers with arms full of much needed coats, hats, mittens and blankets. Sometimes it's a microwave, a boiler or whatever the specific need is of the place that they are visiting.

I’ve been a peripheral volunteer with Holiday Express for 20 years. I’ve never seen a group like this make an impact in the two-plus hours that they entertain their “clients.” Over 50 musicians and 500 volunteers show up and perform at 90 events throughout their season.

They’ll be performing at the Count Basie Theatre Dec. 19 and 20. This is your chance to support Holiday Express while catching some of the best musicians New Jersey has to offer.

I promise: Nothing else can get you in the holiday season like catching one of their shows. It's a must-do event on my list every holiday and it always reminds me what the true meaning of Christmas is really all about.

Hope you are able to catch one of their remaining shows. But if you can't this year and would still like to help, please feel free to visit them at HolidayExpress.org to find out more.
