HAMPTON TOWNSHIP — State Police are asking the public for help in identifying a woman they said was caught on camera stealing hundreds of dollars from a purse she found in a shopping cart.

Police say the woman found the purse on July 26 in a Walmart in this Sussex County township. Although she was "kind enough" to return the purse to customer service, she did so only after swiping $700 in cash, police said.

Police say video shows the woman removing the cash from the purse.

She was spotted leaving and driving away in a light-colored SUV.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sussex Station Detective Bureau at 973-383-1514, anonymously if needed.
