Currently a heat warning is issued for New Jersey as the entire eastern region of the United State undergoes a dome of high temperature that is sending the mercury skyrocketing as far west as Ohio.

What's worse is the relief is not expect to come at night, as temperatures will still be in the 80's at night, contributing to the hot days.

The high heat and humidity will raise the heat index as high as 105.

The National Weather Service warn everyone follow safety measures during the hot days including:

  • Slow down and reduce strenuous activities. Reschedule strenuous work for early morning or evening.
  • Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing to reflect heat and sunlight.
  • Drink plenty of water and nonalcoholic and non-carbonated beverages.
  • Spend more time in air conditioned places.
  • Avoid protein rich meals such as meats that increase metabolic heat production and increase water loss.
  • Never leave children, disabled adults or pets in parked cars -- beat the heat, check the back seats.

Health officials also warn to watch for the signs of heat exhaustion, including dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps, and/or confusion. If you find yourself suffering any symptoms from the heat, contact 911 immediately.

They warn people to schedule any kind of strenuous activities, like gardening or exercise, for the cooler periods in the early morning and evening. Those working outside, especially doing physical labor, are told to take frequent breaks, drink extra fluids, and find shade or air conditioning whenever possible.

Those with air conditioning are recommended to stay indoors, and for those without it, to try and spend time in stores or local cooling centers (usually located at libraries or community centers).

It's also asked anyone with elderly neighbors or relatives check on them at least twice daily.
