Jackson Police are looking for a man they said assaulted a gas station attendant, after the attendant confronted the man about hitting a woman in his car.

A car pulled into the Sunoco station at the intersection of Route 537 and 571 on New Year's Eve just after 6 p.m., and the attendant at the pumps noticed a man, identified by police as Stephone Potts Jr., 29, of Willingboro, hit a woman in the car, police said. The attendant, who whose name was not disclosed by police, told another attendant to call 911, police said.

Potts got out of the car and hit the attendant in the back of the head, causing him to fall face-first to the ground and lose consciousness. Potts took the attendant's cell phone and left the scene, police said. Police say robbery, aggravated assault and theft charges are pending against Potts.

Potts is described as a black male who stands 5 feet and 10 inches tall, and weighs 145 pounds. He is known to drive a 2000 Honda Civic. Anyone with information about the incident or Potts' whereabouts should call 732-928-111.
