Tabatha Vassey tells 6 ABC her son Kyle, who spent four days in the hospital, is experiencing "wheezing and the shortness of breath," both of which are among the cold-like symptoms of Enterovirus D-68. Other symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat and sinus pain are not present. "

Vassey's son attends the morning session of the preschool program at Yardville Elementary School in Hamilton. Eli Waller, the four-year-old boy whose death has officially been attributed to Enterovirus D-68, had been in the same classroom. Vassey tells Times of Trenton the two boys were friends and spent time together at school events.

The Mercer County school remains open with an increased emphasis on 3 areas: cleanliness, education and monitoring. All district schools and buses are being thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis, students must wash their hands before lunch, posters are being hung in every school reminding students how to prevent the spread of the virus, and school nurses are tracking all student illnesses.
