Thirty-four-year-old Aaron Carter of Hamilton had pleaded guilty earlier this year to weapons possession and intent to distribute drugs.

Carter was shot multiple times in June 2011 after authorities said he pointed a gun at the detective.

The shooting occurred when police working on a burglary task force detail saw an apparent drug deal in which Carter allegedly was involved. Carter then ran off and was tackled by the detective, but he escaped and ran off again.

A brief chase ensued before Carter pulled out a handgun. The detective then drew his own weapon and shot Carter multiple times.
