ATLANTIC CITY — Authorities have identified the gunman and victim involved in the fatal "domestic-related" shooting that took place at The Walk Thursday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Christopher Romero, 26, of Absecon, who was the store manager at Zumiez clothing store.

The shooting took place just after noon at the Tanger Outlets. Police say the gunman, identified as Luis Maisonet, 55, of Somers Point, fatally shot Romero, then fled across the street and shot himself at a second store.

Romero was transported to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center, City Division where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Maisonet remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The mayor said the shooter and victim knew each other, but their relationship wasn't immediately clear.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that shooting involves a domestic related matter and the incident is not an active shooter situation. Police report no ongoing threat to the public related to this matter," The Atlantic County prosecutor said in a statement.

Authorities say the weapon used in the shooting was recovered. Police placed the shopping center on lockdown for about an hour immediately following the incident.

The Tanger outlets are a popular shopping destination for tourists near the city's casinos and boardwalk. The shooting happened hours before the Zac Brown Band performed on the beach just blocks away and at the start of the final big holiday weekend of the summer at the financially struggling shore resort.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department continue to investigate the incident and anyone with information is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666.
