In a statement issued Tuesday, campaign officials said Kim Guadagno would join Christie on the 2013 GOP ticket.

While in office, the governor has given Guadagno authority to oversee the administration's economic development efforts. She has stayed mostly in his shadow, but the lieutenant governor post could soon get more attention due to speculation that if Christie's re-elected, he could leave office early to mount a presidential bid in 2016.

When asked last week if Guadagno would again be his running mate, Christie said he had not had a chance to discuss the idea with her.

But they apparently met in recent days, and Christie says he's "thrilled that she is going to be part of the team."
