Governor Christie takes his message over sick-pay reforms to the people again today, in a very personal way.

Christie will visit a private home in New Brunswick for what is being billed as a "Conversation with Property Taxpayers on Sick Pay Reform"event.

This is the latest salvo in the battle over those huge sick-time payouts many government workers are given when they retire because they did not take all of their sick or vacation time. Democrats have proposed capping the payouts at $7,500. Christie wants zero.

Over the years, these payouts have become accepted "retirement benefits," in the words of one union leader.

Democrats in the legislature have been unwilling to yield to the "zero" payout option the Governor is demanding. In essence, this standoff may net "zero" reform, and taxpayers will continue to be on the hook for these huge payouts for some time to come.
