State police at the scene of a school bus crash south of Trenton, New Jersey say a child has died in the accident and that the child is the daughter of a state trooper. Officials say the bus collided with a dump truck at about 8:30 a.m. this morning in Chesterfield.

Governor Chris Christie released the following statement via email; “We are awaiting further details, but we are deeply concerned for the students on the bus and their families and can only imagine what they’ve been dealing with in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved, especially those who have been injured.”

Christie’s spokesman says the Governor will have more to say on the tragedy later today after full details are gathered.

A parent who came to pick up her bruised children says there were a number of injuries in the accident and that the students have been taken to a hospital.
