Governor Christie Addresses His Weight Loss Surgery [VIDEO/AUDIO]

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is talking about his decision to secretly have lap-band weight loss surgery back in February.

"It's nobody else's business," said Christie during a Newark news conference packed with reporters.

He said he did it for his wife Mary Pat and the kids.

"This is about my long-term health. I've been very fortunate for the last 50 years not to have any type of effects or complications from being overweight the better part of the last 20 years," Christie said. "I tried a whole bunch of other things, they hadn't worked, this was an opportunity to try something different."

Christie also reiterated the decision had nothing to do with his political career, and had a message for reporters, who questioned his motives.

"With all due respect to everybody here, your opinions on this issue really don't matter a whole hell of a lot to me. It's ridiculous, it's ridiculous, it's silly - I mean I don't mean to demean what you all do, but this is silly."

The Governor was asked if Lut. Governor Kim Guadagno assumed the duties of Governor when Christie had the procedure.

"No, I was in charge. It's like asking if I decide to take a nap on Saturday afternoon, do I call her and say, 'Hey Kim, I'm taking a nap for 40 minutes, you're in charge."

"Ridiculous. What?"

Christie told reporters the surgery took 40 minutes and was no big deal. He was a bit sore for a couple of days afterwards, but went back to work 3 days later.

"I do not see myself, nor do I care to be a role model in this regard for anyone, this is an intensely personal issue for people."

The Governor then said no matter what happens with this newest attempt to lose weight, he is not going to be one of these people who will write a book, or run around on TV shows and take a victory lap, so to speak.

He also said he's not fixated on his weight.

"This has never defined me in my own mind," said Christie. "It's been an element of my life but it hasn't defined me or who I am."

When asked how much weight he's lost the Governor would not say, nor would he discuss what weight loss goal he has.

He also said the decision to have the lap band procedure was not easy.

"Surgery is surgery and you never want to approach that lightly, and I certainly didn't."

Christie told reporters he started to seriously think about this last September, when he turned 50, but Superstorm Sandy for him to postpone the operation.

"This is not like some magic thing where like all of a sudden like bang, you're losing weight. You still have to do a lot of the things that you have to do to lose weight normally. I eat less, typically than I used to. I'm not as hungry as I used to be, but there's no guarantee of what's going to happen."
