Today, Governor Chris Christie was to deliver his annual State of the State Address to a special joint session of the legislature. The sudden and tragic passing of Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce last changed everything. Christie eulogized the man he calls “a dear friend, colleague, and mentor.”

“For today it’s enough to say that the state of our state is getting better, but today our hearts are filled with sadness,” says Christie. “Unfortunately, tragedy struck last night. Our colleague, our friend Alex DeCroce passed suddenly.”

Christie says, "I had no more loyal friend in Trenton than Alex DeCroce……..Behind the smile was the ferociousness of someone who had deeply held convictions…...He was one of the kindest, most trustworthy people I know. He was a friend to all of us, regardless of your position or your party."
