Gov. Chris Christie says he'll vote in favor of letting New Jersey residents bet legally on sporting events.

At an appearance in Jersey City on Wednesday, the governor said he supports a referendum on next week's ballot asking voters whether they want to make sports betting legal, if a federal ban on it is ever lifted.

Christie says it's naJive to think illicit betting isn't going on. He related the tale of a fan who came up to him at a New York Giants game, happy that Big Blue won, but sad that they didn't score enough to make his two-team parlay bet a winner.

The governor says it's time to get sports betting out from the shadows and make it legal.
