Christie has been traveling the country, campaigning in his role as chair of the Republican Governors Association. He was in Connecticut on Monday and plans to visit Florida, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and New Hampshire later this week.

Two recent polls have shown Christie's job approval rating dipping this summer -- and one pollster suggested that Christie's frequent out-of-state travel and growing presidential buzz might be to blame.

But Christie said he didn't think that conclusion was supported by the numbers.

The governor said that people he's met traveling around New Jersey have been encouraging about the work he's been doing to help elect fellow Republicans.
