A Republican who lost a disputed primary when he ran for Morris County freeholder last year has been appointed to fill the seat that his former opponent was forced to vacate.

County GOP officials voted overwhelmingly Saturday to have 24 year old Hank Lyon assume the seat held by longtime Freeholder Margaret Nordstrom. He will now serve until the November elections.

Lyon defeated Nordstrom by four votes in the GOP primary last June, but Nordstrom sued and a judge overturned the results.

Nordstrom went on to win the seat last November. But a state appellate court ruled last month ruled that Lyon won the primary and voided Nordstrom's win over her Democratic opponent in the November elections. They declared her seat vacant, but said they didn't have the authority to appoint a replacement.
