Officials say a 220,000-pound girder fell shortly after its installation atop two concrete column caps at the Goethals Bridge construction site in northern New Jersey.

No injuries or travel problems were reported. But officials say the installation of girders is now on hold following Friday night's incident in Elizabeth.

The girder, which is about 170 feet long, caused some minor damage to other equipment at the site.

The incident is under forensic engineering examination by the developer, NYNJ Link, and its contractor, and is being overseen by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
