Gas prices rising in New Jersey, AAA Mid-Atlantic reports

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Motorists are still seeing higher prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $2.11, up 7 cents from last week. But that's still much lower than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.33.

This marks the third straight week that prices have risen in New Jersey, following several weeks of sharp price declines.

The national average price on Friday was $2.28, up 4 cents from last week. But that's still much lower than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.38.

Analysts say the higher gas prices are spurred by rebounding crude oil prices and ongoing maintenance work at refineries, which results in decreased production.
