Garden State Parkway Toll Cheating Down
Toll cheating is down on the Garden State Parkway and more motorists are opening E-ZPass accounts in the first month since cameras were mounted in exact change lanes.
Turnpike Authority executive director Veronique Hakim says she'll know by next month how much money has come in as a result of the crackdown. Officials estimated that $16 million was lost to exact-change cheats last year.
However, some motorists say they've received violations and fines even though they paid their tolls.
John Farrell of Brick Township told the Asbury Park Press he received five violation notices after he said he paid tolls with exact change. Farrell says he got three different answers from three different Turnpike Authority workers when he called.
Farrell says he decided to just sign up for E-ZPass.
