This is kind of a stunner, and I’m a Game of Thrones fan. “Khaleesi” is a more popular female baby name than “Betsy” or “Nadine”. If you’re not a GOT fan, “Khaleesi” is a title among a certain race of people, the Dothraki; there’s only one khaleesi in GOT, however, and that’s Daenerys Targaryen, played by the lovely Emilia Clarke who is one of the internet’s favorite people.

The fact that “Khaleesi” passed those two former mainstays says as much about their plummeting popularity as it does about “Khaleesi’s” rise. We’re also not talking about a ton of people with these names, either, with just 146 girls getting the name “Khaleesi” in 2012. Since it seems that GOT’s popularity continues to grow, I’m eager to see if that trend continues. According to The Shortlist, another GOT name, “Arya” was given to 754 American girls in 2012.
