ATLANTIC CITY — Funeral services for fallen State Trooper Frankie Williams will be Monday afternoon at Boardwalk Hall.

Williams, 31, was killed Monday in the line of duty while responding to a report of an erratic driver on Route 55. That driver, Lloyd Rudley, ended up hitting Williams' cruiser head-on after crossing the median.

Friends of Rudley, who died in the crash, said he never drank alcohol and suspected he may have suffered a medical emergency.

Gov. Chris Christie also ordered flags to be flown at half staff Monday in honor of Williams.

Hundreds of people already attended a Thursday evening vigil for Williams in Maurice River.

Williams' death was another grim reminder of the dangers state troopers face on the Garden State's congested highways.

Williams was the fourth New Jersey trooper to die while on duty in just two years. All four troopers died on the road.

In March, Trooper Sean Cullen was killed on Route 295 in West Deptford by a passing car while he was out of his vehicle responding to a car fire.

Trooper Eli McCarson died in December 2015 in a single-car crash while responding to a domestic violence call in Quinton.

Trooper Anthony Raspa died in March 2015 after hitting a deer and then a tree on Route 195 in Monmouth County.

The law enforcement organization has recorded 71 line-of-duty deaths since 1923 — most of them a result of road accidents, crashes or vehicular assaults, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

"Frankie Williams always dreamed of becoming a New Jersey State Trooper. He achieved that goal and quickly earned the admiration and respect of both his supervisors and peers,” Col. Rick Fuentes, State Police superintendent, said Friday.

“Frankie was a kind, caring person who put others before himself. We are devastated and heartbroken by his passing, but he can rest assured that we will embrace his family as they will always remain a part of our State Police family.”

A viewing for Williams will take place for friends and family from 8 to 10 a.m. and law enforcement from 10 a.m. to noon.

Adams-Perfect Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Donations may be made in Frankie Williams' memory to Fusion Church, 701 New Hampshire Ave., Somers Point, NJ 08244 or to the Survivors of the Triangle, 800 Denow Road, Suite C #385, Pennington, NJ 08534.
