After three days in a row of pleasant spring weather meteorologist Alan Kasper expects showers all day on Tuesday with periods of heavy rain that could produce over an inch of rain. There’s also the chance of a thunderstorm with winds gusting to 30-35 miles per hour. Temperatures will stay warm in the 60s for one last day.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Camden, Mercer and Burlington counties for a line of storms with winds of up to 60 MPH until 4:30 p.m.

A Flood Advisory has been issued for Warren,Hunterdon,Morris and Somerset counties until 5 p.m. over concerns of minor flooding on highways, streets and poor drainage areas.

The rain is causing nearly 4 hour delays at Newark Airport on departures according to FlightAware.com. LaGuardia and Philadelphia have delays of almost 2 hours with Kennedy having 30 minute delays.

A strong cold front will pass through the state tonight sending temperatures crashing back to the upper 20s prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Freeze Warning for much of the state including all of south and central New Jersey plus Union, Hudson, Essex and Bergen counties. Water from Tuesday’s rain could freeze on some paved surfaces and sensitive vegetation will be susceptible to damage.Potted plants left outside should be brought inside.

A few flakes of snow could fall in north and central New Jersey on Tuesday night Temperatures will not get out of the 50s on Wednesday under sunny skies.

The cloudy skies early Tuesday also prevented much of the east coast from witnessing the first eclipse of the year. With the moon is in the Earth’s shadow, the moon appeared colorful, some shade of red or orange. That was from light around the edges of the Earth — essentially sunrises and sunsets — splashing on the lunar surface and faintly lighting up the moon, said Alan MacRobert, senior editor at Sky & Telescope magazine.

There will be another eclipse on October 8.
