Freehold Inspector Admits Taking Bribe
An inspector with the Freehold Soil Conservation District has admitted taking a $700 bribe from an undercover officer.
John Tonon of Manasquan pleaded guilty to official misconduct and bribery. Under terms of a plea agreement, Monmouth County prosecutors will seek a five-year prison term and the 51-year-old would be eligible for parole in two years.
Prosecutors say Tonon offered to expedite issuing soil conservation approvals for a home that was under construction in Hazlet.
