The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the New Jersey Democrat released a statement Friday saying continued treatment for muscle weakness and fatigue will keep him from traveling. He says his doctor has advised him to work from home.

Lautenberg was sick with the flu in late December and early January and missed several votes. He missed more votes last month after his doctor advised him not to travel.

The 89-year-old Lautenberg announced in February he would retire next year and not seek re-election.

Lautenberg underwent chemotherapy treatments for stomach cancer in 2010.
