Back in the 60's there was an infamous political ad that only aired once. It was that controversial. Known as the 'Daisy' ad, it was used by the Lyndon B. Johnson campaign to paint Barry Goldwater as a man not to be trusted with nuclear weapons. Sound familiar? It was so disturbing for the sensibilities of the 60's that it was deemed too controversial and never aired a second time. The focus was a cute little girl counting flower pedals then vanishing as a nuclear bomb is detonated.

Fast forward more than half a century later and you have a lot of folks saying the same thing about Donald Trump as was said about Barry Goldwater. That this is a man not to be trusted with the nuclear codes. Former Sen. Bill Bradley's PAC is among them. They released this ad using powerful images of a nuclear holocaust. Interspersed are clips of Donald Trump responding to Chris Matthews' questioning him on his casual attitude on using nuclear weapons by saying, "Then why are we making them?" Seen last in the ad are the words: "Be careful who you vote for."

Is it fair? Is it just as disturbing as the 'Daisy' ad of the 1960's? Of all the things I worry about with a Trump presidency, nuclear war isn't on the list. Perhaps I'm naive but I feel even the bombastic Donald Trump would be somewhat tempered by the awesome responsibility of the presidency.
