Hongyu Wang had pleaded guilty in November to the distribution charge as well as one count of evidence tampering.

The case dates back to December 2011 when state police investigators downloaded child pornography from a peer-to-peer file sharing network and traced it to a computer at Rutgers.

An exam of Wang's computer the following month at the apartment he shared with his parents revealed numerous child porn videos. State police also said Wang attempted to destroy data on his computer's hard drive before they could seize it.

Wang was expelled by Rutgers after his arrest.
