Ex-Rutgers Instructor Sentenced For Child Porn

State prosecutors say a former Rutgers University instructor who used his school computer to share numerous child porn videos online has been sentenced to four years in state prison.

Gavin Swiatek (NJ Office of Attorney General)

Gavin Swiatek, a biochemistry instructor at Rutgers’ Cook Campus in New Brunswick, had pleaded guilty last December to distributing child porn. Besides the prison term that was imposed Monday, the 50-year-old Hillsborough resident is also permanently barred from holding public employment in New Jersey.

State Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa says authorities learned Swiatek was using peer-to-peer file sharing to exchange the videos. Swiatek was arrested at his home in January 2012 when state police executed a search warrant at the residence.
