The senator's campaign announced Tuesday that Clinton would headline a fund-raiser for Menendez on June 1. But further details haven't been announced.

Menendez, a Democrat who has served in the Senate since 2006, was a member of House during Clinton's presidency in the 1990s. He's being challenged by Republican state Sen. Joe Kyrillos.

Menendez has banked $9.5 million for the race. Kyrillos has raised $1.75 million so far.

Kyrillos tapped his friend and ally, Gov. Chris Christie, to headline a fundraiser for him shortly after he declared his intent to challenge the incumbent.

Democrat Barack Obama is at the top of the November ballot, making the race tougher for Kyrillos.
