A former Point Pleasant priest was sentenced on Friday for molesting a boy inside a Trenton home in 2014.

The Times of Trenton reported the Rev. Romannilo "Nilo" Apura, who had served at St. Martha Parish, was sentenced to three years in prison and to register as a sex offender. Apura will serve his sentence in the state Corrections Department's Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Woodbridge.

An earlier restraining order prevents Apura from having contact with the victim, his family and any children under the age of 18.

The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office had accused the 67-year-old of assaulting the boy in a home in Trenton earlier in 2014 and trying to remove the boy's pants in June. The doctors at the center diagnosed Apura with "repetitive and compulsive" behavior.

Apura had served as pastor at St. Martha's since 2012.
