NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A former spokesman for Gov. Chris Christie has been named to a policy position at the state's transit agency.

Michael Drewniak will serve as New Jersey Transit's chief of policy and strategic planning. Transit executive director Veronique Hakim says Drewniak will focus on initiatives in the areas of safety, efficiency, technology, face collection and capacity.

Drewniak's departure comes as Christie contemplates a possible 2016 presidential run.

Drewniak is a former reporter who whose service to Christie goes back to when Christie was U.S. attorney in New Jersey more than 10 years ago.

Drewniak testified before a grand jury last year as part of an investigation into lane closures at the George Washington Bridge
