Former Atlantic City Housing Authority Worker Faces Charges
Official misconduct charges have been filed against a former Atlantic City Housing Authority worker who allegedly used its tax-exempt ID card to make personal purchases.
Marvin Royal of Pleasantville also faces a theft by deception charge. He turned himself in Wednesday at the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and was later released.
Prosecutors say the 62-year-old Royal used the card without permission last September to avoid paying sales tax on a laptop computer and some software, which they say he bought for his personal use. At the time, he was a housing manager for the Jeffries Towers public housing complex.
Royal retired from the authority in February. A phone number for him could not be located Wednesday night.
