The charity benefits the needs of residents in the Central Jersey area.

"An organization that's focused on helping organizations and families in the local area," said Rich Lancia, event director. "That are struggling financially due to certain costs and the rigors associated chronic, debilitating diseases."

Over the last decade, FNA has supported research, education, awareness, and assisted families directly around Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties.

To date, they have raised more than $300,000 for various individuals and initiatives. One factor that makes the group unique is partnering with different groups each year for their signature event.

FNA's 9th Annual 5k Race and Fun Walk takes place on Sunday, September 20, at Thompson Park in Monroe Township.

"This year, the proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Foundation," Lancia said.

The group hopes to top the lofty benchmark they set in 2014.

"Last year was a record year, we had over 300 participants," Lancia said. "The overall goal is to push to make the event bigger and better than it was the year before."
