The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for New Jersey's coastline as a storm carrying heavy rains approaches.

The advisory covers coastal sections of Ocean and Monmouth counties and parts of Middlesex County and lasts from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The weather service says the evening high tide should bring minor tidal flooding but that more widespread tidal flooding is expected with Wednesday morning's high tide cycle.

Sea heights are expected to reach six to 11 feet.

The storm is approaching from the southwest and is expected to dump heavy rains on the southern and central parts of the state. Northwestern New Jersey will get freezing rain Tuesday night and some higher elevations could see snow.

Wind gusts could reach 45 mph.
