Flash flood warning in effect after thunderstorm, heavy rain

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) -- Flash flood waters have begun receding in a coastal New Jersey town and there were no reports of injuries after people had to be rescued from flood waters.

The Toms River police department said that fire and police units assisted people who were stuck in their cars in flood water.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning as a thunderstorm produced as much as three inches of rain. It warned residents to move to higher ground and ended at 7:45 p.m.

Flooding was reported in the area around where the Toms River and Barnegat Bay meet. Police say that many roads are impassible including portions of Route 37 east of Vaughn Avenue.
