TRENTON - A 3-alarm fire in East Orange that killed one is one of several that displaced dozens early Sunday morning.

.ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported the fire on Midland Avenue started around 5 a.m and spread quickly causing the roof to collapse. The fire spread to a home under construction next door, according to a broadcast report by CBS New York. Several homes across the street were evacuated as a precaution with some being damaged by the heat of the fire, according to NBC New York.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said Maureen Phillips,72, was initially unaccounted for but was later discovered and pronounced dead. Six others, including Phillips' 38-year-old son and a 52-year-old woman were injured. Six other people ranging in age from 36-years-old to 1 were also in the home.

RLS Media reported that several fire companies assisted with the fire.

The New Jersey chapter of the Red Cross tweeted that its Disaster Action Team is meeting with the family displaced by the fire in East Orange.

The Red Cross tweeted about two other families it is providing emerging assistance and temporary lodging to a family of four displaced by a fire at their 18th Street home in Paterson and a family of 7 displaced by a fire at their Commodore Court home in Barnegat.

“Our hearts are with the family as they cope with this tremendous loss,” said Ana Montero, regional CEO, American Red Cross New Jersey Region of the Paterson fire. “Our compassionate volunteers provided assistance to the family this morning and will remain available for support and counseling needs.”

Three firefighters were injured in the Paterson fire,  according to the Paterson Times.
