The fire broke out late Wednesday afternoon in Woodbridge Township, near the junction of Interstate 287 and the Garden State Parkway.

The Home News Tribune reports flames came within 25 feet of an ammo rack at a gun range in the Keasbey section of the township.

The flames also reportedly had spread to several tractor-trailers in a parking lot.

Plumes of thick black smoke could be seen for miles before firefighters gained control and rain helped extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
