Fire damages Sayreville motel
A three-alarm fire at the Circle Motor Lodge has injured one person and left much of the motel uninhabitable Wednesday.
Sayreville Police say the fire at the multi-level building on the Victory Circle broke out around 11 a.m. It was brought under control about 2 hours later, though firefighters continued to deal with hotspots. One occupant of the hotel suffered smoke inhalation while Sayreville's Office of Emergency Management is finding temporary shelter for displaced residents.
Around the same time, a fire broke out at a home across town at 60 Dolan Street. The fire was brought under control quickly, according to News 12 New Jersey, and crews were sent back to the Circle Motor Lodge.
Perth Amboy, Keasbey, and Hopelawn Fire companies. Morgan FAS and Raritan Bay EMS assisted Sayreville in battling the blaze at the 70-room motel.
Routes 9 and 35, which intersect at the Circle, were never closed nor were the Raritan River crossings. However, Lower Main Street remained closed.
