Fire damages public works garage in Edison

EDISON(AP) -- Fire officials say a municipal garage has collapsed after a multi-alarm fire in Edison. No one has been injured.

The fire began around 10 p.m. Thursday at the Edison Township Department of Public Works garage on New Durham Road. No one was inside the building and nearby homes have not been evacuated.

Fire officials tell WCBS-TV that there is an alley between the garage and residences and that no homes are believed to be in danger.

It wasn't known what was burning but the building contains fuel tanks, vehicles and tires. The Middlesex County Fire Coordinator is at the scene.
