EDISON — Fire broke out in a home across from an elementary school on Thursday morning.

The two-alarm fire at the home on Winthrop Road caused heavy damage to the upper level of the home, according to Edison Police. Everyone inside the home made it out safely.

The Washington Elementary School, located directly across the two-story home, opened on a two-hour delay on Thursday. Police said the school was not damaged by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
