At the height of the blaze the Home News Tribune reported flames can be seen coming from the garden apartments.

10 people were evacuated from 3 condo units as the fire spread from a unit on Maine Court according to the Matawan-Aberdeen Patch. Firefigters had to use a  ladder truck to throw  out charred beams and pieces of the roof as white smoke continued to pour out. The smell of acrid smoke filled the air.

Police Capt. Arthur Carullo says three of the ten units were completely destroyed. The others sustained damage.

Only one resident needed emergency housing.

Carullo says officials are trying to determine what caused the blaze.

The fire began around 10:00AM and was under control by 12noon.
