My wife has been immersed in a book for the last week or so.

Not so unusual, except that the book has her talking to my daughter, my sister, and some of her girlfriends.

And my mother-in-law. (Bad visual….aargghhh!)

“Fifty Shades of Grey” by E L James.

Not your usual “chick flick” kind of book.

In fact, not even a little bit.

Without getting too much into the plot, an obscenely rich guy with a flair for the erotic takes up with an innocent woman a few years his junior; and shows her the ropes (figuratively and literally) of his sexual proclivities.

In fact, had a guy written the book, it probably would have appeared in “Penthouse Forum”…or in some “adult apparel” shop on Route 1 in Avenel.

Ah, but no!

E L James describes this as her “midlife crisis”.

In a recent TV interview, she describes what all went into the writing of the book, the endless hours of internet trolling to gather the research needed to describe the fantasies acted out by the 2 main characters.

And as the mother of 2 teenage boys, she’s hoping against hope that her boys never get a copy of it! (Mummy wants daddy to do "WHAT!")

Women all over are eating it up!

That’s why she’s gotten a 5 million dollar payment for the rights to make a movie out of it.

And some women are finding not only the plot, but mores, the descriptions of the “sexual activity” intriguing!

At the very least, E L James has some couples talking about what they’d like to explore.

And others wishing she’d have kept her “midlife crisis” to herself.

What say you?
