A serious accident on Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania took the life of a van driver Friday morning and westbound traffic from New Jersey was diverted for several hours.

The highway was closed westbound at exit 3 in Greenwich, with traffic diverted onto Route 22 to cross the Delaware River in Easton.

WFMZ TV reports a cargo van caught fire around 5:15 a.m. at Route 33 in Williams, PA and hit a tractor trailer parked in the left lane from an earlier accident. The cargo van driver could not escape the flames and died inside his vehicle according to Lehigh Valley Live.

The accident caused delays around the Easton area and back into New Jersey.

The road was reopened in Pennsylvania just before 9 a.m. on Friday morning although traffic was still being diverted in New Jersey.
