We all have words that we live by. Some live by bible quotes, some go by mottos, some use sayings that they’ve either seen on a Hallmark card or read on a placard in a souvenir shop at the Jersey Shore.  Some, like myself, are inspired by rock lyrics.

There is a new film coming out called “Springsteen and I” which speaks to the relationship between ‘The Boss” and his fans.

For me, classic rockers are the philosophers of our time. When I first heard Bruce sing “ It’s a town full of losers, I’m pulling out of here to win ” I was living in a place I couldn’t stand and he nailed my feelings totally.  Perhaps John Lennon’s “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”: or Pete’s Townsend’s “I don’t need to fight to prove I’m right, I don’t need to be forgiven”

Whatever the lyric or the song is, it’s the reason we keep coming back to see these bands over and over again. Bands like the Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffet, and Pearl Jam have people that dedicate their lives to following  them wherever they go, not to mention Phish who’s following is  so dedicated that Ben and Jerry’s named an ice cream after them.
