Family of Jersey City Teen Says He Was Killed For Cellphone

The family of a young Jersey City man says he was shot while pursuing a man who had robbed his brother’s cellphone.Amir Choudry tells The Jersey Journal that he was with his two brothers outside their Jersey City home when two men approached and snatched his younger brother’s cellphone.

The brothers gave chase, and Amir says his 19-year-old younger brother, Muhammad, was fatally shot when one of the men fleeing with the phone turned and fired a weapon at him.

Amir tells the newspaper that the robbery happened just before 3 a.m. Friday.

He says the three brothers were up that early with their parents and their three sisters because their mother had been cooking a meal for Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.
