‘Fall on Me’ by R.E.M. – Bill Doyle’s ‘Not-So-Top-10′ List
The song I requested this week is the first song I ever remember hearing by REM, even though this was not their first charted song (that would be “Radio Free Europe” in 1983). Their biggest hit was a monster, “Losing My Religion” in 1991, which is their only “gold” record and for which they won the Grammy Award for “Best Pop Vocal Group”. But that’s not what I requested of Big Joe, no I wanted to hear a song that peaked at #94. Their next release was their breakthrough hit, “The One I Love” which peaked at #9, but I still associate “Fall On Me” with REM the most. If you’re curious, no, Big Joe did not play it.
