EAST BRUNSWICK — Travelers on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway will have two potential trouble spots this weekend.

Delays are expected on the northbound Turnpike as the right lane of the western spur will be closed starting Friday night at 9 p.m. between the "mixing bowl" area north of Newark Liberty International Airport and Exit 15W for Route 280 in Kearny for bridge deck work. The right lanes of the ramp from the northbound Turnpike to the western spur will also be closed.

The closure will be in place through the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday morning. The center lane will close during the overnight hours as well.

A five-week weekend project also gets underway on the northbound Parkway in Woodbridge north of the Driscoll Bridge on Friday night.

"The contractor is shifting lanes to the left so they can build a permanent concrete median between the northbound lanes and the adjacent ramp from King Georges Post Road. They’ll be restriping the road and installing temporary barrier," Turnpike spokesman Thomas Feeney said, adding that the work will be complete by late Saturday morning.

The Parkway work is not expected to create delays to be as bad as those two weeks ago on the southbound side.

Feenery said both projects are subject to weather conditions.
