New Jersey roadways were a mess heading into rush hour Tuesday, with overturned trucks blocking areas of major highways.

An overturned tractor trailer had blocked lanes of Route 1 South after a tanker trailer carrying a load of concrete overturned. Shortly before 5 p.m., it appeared two lanes were getting by, but the ramp form Route 287 North to Route 1 South was blocked.

Also just before 5 p.m. an overturned apple truck — carrying 40,000 pounds of apples — had closed all lanes of Route 78 Express Eastbound at Exist 48, for Route 24 West in Springfield Township. The state DOT was reporting 30 to 35-minute delays.

In addition, authorities were still responding to a major water main break in Hoboken — keeping several roads closed along New York Avenue / Observer Highway area of 18th Street in Hoboken. Grove Street, Jersey Avenue, and Newark Street were closed to traffic at the Hoboken-Jersey City border.
