Exchange Signs Up More Than Expected in NJ

More New Jersey residents than expected have signed up for the federally run health insurance exchange.

The federal government says nearly 162,000 people in the state registered before the deadline last month. That's 70 percent more than the federal government projected last year.

Signups across the country were also higher than expected — but only by about 15 percent.

Even more New Jersey residents who were registered for the programs were told they were eligible for the state's expanded Medicaid program.

The government says 180,000 people in the state were referred to that subsidized insurance program for lower-income people.
