Evesham to fine owners of unmaintained properties

The exterior of homes in Evesham must be kept neat or owners will face a steep fine.

NBC 10 reports the Township Council voted unanimously on Tuesday night to impose a daily $1,500 fine on owners who let their property become overgrown, especially those home that are in foreclosure.

Mayor Randy Brown explained that the ordinance is mainly targeted at large homes that have become neighborhood eyesores and health hazards. "We didn't have teeth," Brown told NBC 10. "The state gave us teeth. So now we can bite their arm off."

Residents in the Burlington Township community who fall behind in their regular yard maintenance will be warned several times before being fined $100 and taken to court.
