The attorney general says 65-year-old Ajit Jayaram of Englewood was sentenced Friday.

Jayaram, who had an office in Jersey City, was arrested in October 2010 as part of a Medicaid fraud investigation.

Investigators learned Jayaram had twice tried to hire a hit man to carry out the killings.

He pleaded guilty in February to charges of attempted murder, health care claims fraud and Medicaid fraud.

Authorities say Jayaram wanted his lover killed because he owed her money and was worried his wife would discover their affair.

He also tried to have his former business partner killed.

Neither was harmed.
