NJ101.5 has partnered with local animal rescue organizations EASEL Animal Rescue League and Friends of EMAS (Edison Municipal Animal Shelter) to feature adoptable local pets in need of homes. Help us find these pets homes by sharing this information with family members and friends who may be interested in adopting a shelter pet.

Adopt Emi

Sweet Emi is beautiful and full of life. She has lived her entire life at the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter. She came in as a small kitten and will turn one in May. She had multiple applications for her adoption until she tested positive for FeLV, which means she carries the virus that causes feline leukemia. She has been healthy and active throughout her life. She has a good appetite, a shiny coat, and is alert, playful and sweet. Our vet says that at this time, Emi is healthy and there is no reason for her not to be adopted. Of course, we advise that she go either to a home where she is the only cat, a home with a cat-friendly small dog, or a home with another FeLV positive cat.

FeLV cats kept indoors, with good diets, and with responsible vet care can live good lives. They are special needs cats, but just like every other cat, they deserve a home and love. A shelter is no environment for a cat like Emi for many reasons, and our hope is that someone will come and meet our precious little girl and give her the life and love she dreams of. Emi is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations and FIV negative.

If you're interested in meeting Emi or adopting her, please email us at EAS@edisonnj.org or call us at 732-248-7278. You can see more adoptable cats from Friends of EMAS here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.

Adopt Ingrid

Ingrid was found in very poor condition, chained to the fence at an old shelter building in Ewing. She was starving and in need of medical care. Despite her condition, Ingrid was very friendly while she was being treated and has been great during her time at the Ewing Animal Shelter. Ingrid, a Pit Bull mix, is now healthy and ready for a new home. She has a very high prey drive and would not do well with cats.

If you’re interested in learning more about Ingrid or to schedule a visit, email dogs@easelnj.org or call 609-883-0540. Find more of EASEL’s adoptable dogs and puppies here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.

Adopt Lionel

Who is this powderpuff that joined the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter family? You might think he is a teddy bear or a small lion, but he is not. He is our Chow Chow named Lionel!

Lionel came in as a stray, but now he is safe and sound. So far, Lionel does not act like the typical aloof Chow Chow. He is very happy being with people and it shows when he greets you with his big smile and his wagging tail. He does not seem to be interested in playing with toys, but he has this playful bounciness about him that is adorable. He walks very well on a leash and gets very serious as he sniffs and explores.Lionel whimpers when he sees another dog as if he wants to meet him. However, he becomes very unsure as he gets closer. He is a seasonal heavy shedder with a double coat, so extra care is needed when he is shedding his dense undercoat. Fortunately, we have discovered that he enjoys being brushed. In hot weather, he should only be outside for a short time because he can overheat very quickly and might become agitated. He requires daily walks to keep him healthy. An air conditioned home is a must. Before you inquire, please read some general information about the Chow Chow breed.

If you're interested in meeting Lionel or fostering/adopting him, please email us at EAS@edisonnj.org or call 732-248-7278. You can see more adoptable dogs from Friends of EMAS here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.
